Maven Vocal Arts is filled with diverse students: BROADWAY, FOLK, CLASSICAL, POP.  The cornerstone of Dr. Cain's teaching is to not make you sound like her or someone else, but to make you sound like you at your best.  Focus is on breathing, body awareness, characterization, and helping you to sing with your healthliest and most optimal voice in a very positive supportive environment.

Dr. Melanie Cain

Dr. Melanie Cain (Owner) holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and a Masters of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She received her BA in both Music and Art from Luther College in Decorah, IA. Dr. Cain has experience in teaching private voice lessons, piano lessons, and has taught many vocal master classes.  Cain has completed Estill Voice Training (Levels 1 and 2) and is successful in teaching all types of voices including classical, musical theater, and contemporary genres.  Her students have repeatedly received top awards at state competitions, and have performed in numerous musicals, operas, bands, honor choirs, and many have enjoyed successful careers in music.

Melanie is the Vice President of Board of Directors of the National Association of Teachers of Singing , former Co-Director of The Metropolitan National Council Auditions Wisconsin District, and Founder and Artistic Director of Fresco Opera Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin. 

Melanie believes music is the one thing that touches us all universally.  It brings peace to the soul and awakens creativity and passion in all aspects of our lives.  Students of music are instilled with the confidence and wisdom essential for all they wish to do in life.

Katie Anderson, M.M

A native of Waupaca, Wisconsin, soprano Katie Anderson holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied under Professor Mimmi Fulmer. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point under the guidance of Weston Hurt and Dr. Matthew Markham. She is currently the Soprano staff singer for Grace Episcopal Church in Madison.

Katie was most recently seen in UW Opera’s production of Puccini's La bohème (Musetta). Recent performance highlights include operas The Turn of the Screw (Governess), Die Zauberflöte (Queen of the Night) and L'enfant et les sortilèges (Le feu). A lover of musical theatre, Katie has also performed lead roles with her Community Theatre in her hometown of Waupaca, WI. Some shows include Into the Woods, The Music Man, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Katie teaches in all genres. She has a passion for helping her students reach their goals and to find their best possible sound. She wants her students to know what their voices are capable of, and to learn that they each have something unique to offer.

Cat Richmond, M.M.

Music has been a part of Ms. Richmond’s life for as long as she can remember, and she believes that anybody and everybody can sing. Every student has a unique voice to be heard, and Ms. Richmond wants to help her students realize their specific vocal goals and instill a passion for music that they can share
Cat Richmond, soprano, hails from Atlanta, GA. She attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Georgia State University to obtain her Masters in Music degree in Vocal Performance. Ms. Richmond also holds two B.A. degrees in Music and English from the College of Charleston. She has been teaching private voice and piano lessons for 6 years. Ms. Richmond teaches a range of vocal styles including classical, musical theatre and pop/rock. Many of her students have successfully competed in All-State choir, school auditions, talent shows, and local theatre companies.

Still an active performer herself, Ms. Richmond is an accomplished regional singer.
Favorite opera roles include the Lady with a Hand Mirror from Argento's Postcard from Morocco, Lucia from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Gretel from Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and Susanna from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. She has also been seen in musical theatre roles such as Martha in Spring Awakening, Mary in HAIR: the Tribal Rock Musical, and Carrie Pipperidge: Carousel.
