PRACTICE TIPS

Practicing is essential for being a successful musician.  I will give each student the tools for being the best they can be, but the real work comes outside the studio.  Playing piano and learning to sing require more than brain work, they are physical activities like basketball or soccer.  Athletes must practice to coordinate and strengthen muscles, musicians must do this as well.
Below are some of my suggestions for helpful home practice.
Then click the links  for some more helpful tips on practicing.

1.  Set a Goal Each Week.  Setting an attainable goal helps to keep a student on track.
2.  Schedule It In.  Mark the practice time into the calendar.  This helps alleviate excuses for no time to practice.
3.  Practice in small increments.  Instead of sitting down for a long session, break it up into  smaller units.  Have a favorite TV show?  Practice during all the commercial breaks.
4.  Get an Egg Timer.  Set an amount of time to practice, when the timer dings you are done!
5.  Keep a Journal.  Write down when you practice, what you practiced, and questions as they  arise to ask me in your lesson.
